5 Ways to Prepare for your First Fall Stream

Your first stream is always an exciting night, but it can also be a little overwhelming if you’re not sure you’re prepared. As a Striv School, we want you to feel knowledgeable and encouraged as you prepare for the fall semester. Consider the following tips as you set up for your first fall stream.

  1. Equipment Inventory

Having the right equipment for streaming is the first step to prepare for your first fall stream. Go ahead and take a day or two to sort through all your equipment. Is there anything that’s too old or flat out broken? Do you need a software update on your laptop? Does wirecast need to be updated before you stream? Is your camera functioning properly? These are the 5 most frequently asked questions as you’re going through your initial equipment inventory. If you answer yes to any of these questions, go ahead and fix it now, so when the first Friday night lights rolls around, you’ve got the equipment piece covered.

  1. Student Inventory

You can’t have a stream without the students! It’s helpful to consider each of your students’ strengths and weaknesses as you prepare your streaming crew for their first game. Think about what students might be good at play by play commentary, or the student who will be more comfortable behind the camera. Feel free to ask your team what their interests are to help determine who does what job.

  1. Talk to the Striv Team

We love to hear from you! Over the course of the summer we have a variety of ways to get your questions answered ahead of time! Consider attending our in-person workshops, both for new teachers, and veterans. We also have online tutorials available for you to watch should you not be able to attend. You even have the option of setting up a training call about a month before your first stream! We highly recommend getting your questions answered early on to avoid a stressful first night of streaming.

  1. Fill out your Striv From

If you’re a current Striv School, we sent you an information form! Check your email inbox, and your physical inbox at your school. Please fill this form out! It helps us help you when it comes time to making sure everyone’s laptops, software, and wirecast are up to date! There’s also an opportunity to give us your feedback on what you’d like to see from us in the coming year. Fill it out and send it back!

  1. Reach out to other Striv Teachers

We have built a community of teachers just like you! Between our conferences, workshops, and summits we want you to make new friends! We have a Facebook Group for our Striv teachers where we share our webinars, and teachers share their tips and tricks on how to run your Striv Crew! We also have a slack channel for the same thing. Get involved with our #strivfam by emailing sara@striv.tv.
