The word trailblazer describes a person who is a pioneer or an innovator. It takes courage and strength to immerse yourself in something new and flourish, especially in student broadcasting.
Elijah Moser is one of these people. Someone who saw the need for student involvement and student broadcasting in live streaming at Columbus High School and helped it grow profoundly.
During freshman year, Elijah noticed that his school’s communication specialist was live streaming the game. Immediately intrigued, Elijah sparked up a conversation with him and became engulfed with live streaming. And as they say, the rest is history.
New Experiences Often Lead to New Passions
Late into Elijah’s freshman year, he had his first experience with Striv. He ran the camera for a wrestling match at his high school. But this is not when he discovered his passion.
A softball doubleheader between Columbus and Grand Island (as Elijah vividly remembers), is when he first put on the headset.
“The first time we added commentary to a game, I sat down, put that headset on for the first time, and was like wow. It was kind of like magic. Throughout the game, I kept thinking; I never want to take off this headset again.”
Striv gave Elijah an outlet to find a passion that he would have never known if not for live streaming. But according to Elijah, Striv and digital media education gave him much more than the platform for student broadcasting.
“Well, one of many things is leadership. I’ve developed many leadership skills throughout it because I’m teaching them how to live stream it and even adapt some stuff in their own lives.”
It is special when you find your passion early in life, as Elijah did. Because of this, Elijah has been enriched through the experiences he has had.
“I called two Class B girls soccer semi-finals on the NFHS network. Last summer, I attended a digital expressions media camp at the University of Nebraska at Kearney. It was a blast, but there are so many different things that I would never have thought would be possible if I never got involved with Striv.”
For students who are unsure if Striv is something that they would enjoy, Elijah is certain that there is something for everyone to love.
“Even if you aren’t interested. Go for it. When people find Striv, they find it so much fun creating digital media content. Whether creating graphics, operating a camera, taking photos, or even helping on game day. There are so many engaging opportunities during the whole process.”
Giving students opportunities through live streaming, like student broadcasting, in high school leads to students, like Elijah, discovering their passions. And can every lead to recognition from professional agencies:
These students are at every high school waiting for opportunities to learn and grow in digital media education. Give it to them.
